What is Reiki? (and other FAQs)

Have you ever walked into a room and been able to sense something - an awkward atmosphere as if something had happened before you arrived?

We usually know instinctively when something feels 'off' - with others and especially within ourselves. Our energy is different, something feels not right. You might even be aware that something feels held, or 'blocked'.

You're sensing energy, perhaps without even knowing it.

Reiki healing uses this energy to effortlessly transform your wellbeing.

In the early 1920s, Japanese Buddhist, Mikao Usui developed the 'Usui System of Natural Healing' - a totally natural and incredibly powerful healing system that is still used today.

Reiki works by removing blockages in the energy body, allowing for free-flow of 'Ki' (life-force energy) and promoting healing on all levels - emotional, mental, physical and spiritual. In fact, I've seen some extraordinary transformations in my Reiki clients over the years.

What is Reiki For?

Reiki healing can be used to support and promote healing for virtually any unwanted condition. It's so deeply relaxing - it has an almost meditative quality, bringing a profound sense of well-being and release - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

When the flow of our energy is blocked or stagnant, we experience a range of unwanted physical, emotional and mental symptoms such as:

  • stress

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • illness

  • pain

We're even more likely to experience accidents and injuries when our energy is 'off' - ever stub your toe when you're already in a bad mood?

Some people experience deep healing in a single session - and some like to have Reiki just to experience it because it feels so good!

What happens in a Reiki session?

Reiki sessions with me are part therapeutic discussion and part Reiki healing. As well as being a Reiki Master Teacher, I am also a Hypnotherapist, so the discussion aspect of our sessions together is very important for discovering what your needs are each session.

The length of discussion before and after healing will vary depending on your needs and whether you have booked a full session (70-90 mins) or a 'top-up' session (60 mins).

You'll stay fully clothed and lie comfortably on a therapy couch. I'll play some nice, relaxing music and place my hands in various positions around your body, either lightly resting on your body or a few inches away.

Every session is different, so one day you might feel some soothing heat or tingling, or feel very emotional - another day you might see lights and colours, perhaps a sense of lightness and floating, maybe some gentle pushing/pulling - another day you might fall asleep (this happens all the time and is totally fine!)

Most people experience a profound and lasting sense of deep relaxation

Most people experience a profound and lasting sense of deep relaxation and peace, that stays with them long after the session. Whatever you experience, the sensations are usually very gentle, completely safe and for your highest good.

Who can have Reiki?

Anyone! Reiki is a very gentle, natural therapy and is completely safe for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly.

If you are on regular medication, it is recommended that you consult your G.P. both prior to treatment and in-between sessions, in order that your G.P. can monitor your dosage and ensure that it is still right for you.

Please do not consume alcohol on the day of your treatment. I do not treat anyone who has used drugs within the last 48 hours.

If you have undiagnosed pain, please consult with your G.P. prior to treatment.

Babies and children are very welcome - under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note that Reiki is not intended as a diagnostic tool or replacement for conventional medicine, but as a complementary therapy that supports your medical treatments. If you have any concerns about your health, you should consult your G.P.

How many sessions will I need?

I've found that working with clients over 4-6 sessions, with occasional 'top-up' sessions afterwards, is the most powerful way to create profound and lasting change.

Some like to have Reiki once, just to experience it, because it feels so good. You may decide that Reiki healing is such a pleasant experience, you'd like to have it regularly to maintain your equilibrium.

We will discuss your treatment plan together and tailor it to meet your needs - you will be able to decide how often you'd like to come and for how many sessions.

Can I learn to do Reiki Healing on myself?

Absolutely - in fact, it's a fantastic way to empower yourself and support your healing - it's why so many of my clients decide to go on and take Reiki training with me.

Reiki training is easy and fun - anyone can learn it and anyone can do it. It's an incredibly powerful tool to help you transform your life and take control of your own wellbeing.
